Most dog owners today can see the value of buying dog shoes for their favorite buddy. Dog shoes do not only give style and dog attitude but most importantly, they give great protection on the dog’s paws especially when your buddy is playing outdoors. But caring for your dog’s paws goes together with caring for your dog’s shoes as well. Here are some helpful tips on how you can take care of your dog’s shoes:

1. Clean off mud and soil. This is a common scenario especially when you let your dogs play outdoors. When he/she comes back, you can expect to see his/her shoes splattered with mud or soil. In this case, if the dog’s shoes are made of finished leather which is characterized by a shiny surface, you can wipe it off with a damp rag and mild soap. Any type of moisturizing soap will work fine. Just bring the soap to a light lather and then gently apply it on the surface of your dog’s shoes. If the dog’s shoes have a part that is stitched, you can try to remove any trapped soil using a dry, soft bristled toothbrush. Finally, wipe away the lather with a soft, dry cloth then polish it gently with a dry towel to bring back its shiny surface. Keep in mind not to rinse it with water because this will damage the leather, causing it to crack. The same process is also applicable with any type of dog’s shoes. Although some dog’s shoes can be cleansed and rinsed with water, particularly those that have a cloth-like material.

2. Store them properly. After cleaning your dog’s shoes, it is advisable that you keep it in a rack so that it can be kept from being worn out easily. Have the habit of cleaning your dog’s shoes before and after use. Wipe them off with a soft cloth before you put it on your dog. This way you can also save some money in buying dog’s shoes very often.
