How To Choose A Dog Collar

dog collar

Dog collars serve a variety of purposes: for control, identification, or for fashion. But regardless of the purpose, you have to make sure that you are picking the right collar for your companion.

Here's how to choose:

 1. Size. The perfect collar for your dog is the one that is not too loose on the neck and not too tight to the point of choking your dog. The ideal fit should allow for one to three fingers to fit between your dog's neck and the collar, depending on the size of your dog.

2. Ability to clean. Choose a dog collar that is easy to clean and use cleaners that are made especially for the collar material.

3.  Durability. Test the snap-together sample to ensure that the hold is strong. Leather dog collars with either buckled or snap-together closures are ideal choices.

4. Safety. Buy a collar with reflective materials if you plan to walk your dog at night.

Extend your poochie's wardrobe by buying him a wide variety of collars of different functions/purposes, sizes, materials, and styles. Just remember that your main goal is to ensure that your pet is safe, comfortable and happy in his new accessory.

  1. Dog collars really do come in a variety of designs, colors and material nowadays. That makes choosing an appropriate collar for your dog really daunting! I've written an article on different types of dog collars here: http://trueanimallover.wordpress.com/2009/04/01/no-more-boring-dog-collars/
